I'd have to hypermile there in the Corolla to have a hope of being able to afford the fuel for the trip . And, as nice as it is, I'm not sure I want to spend 6,000 straight miles hypermiling in the Corolla .

I do want to take a cross-country trip at some point, so I'll let you know if I ever make it out there.

Could I learn that? Could I change? Nah take it to bits - much more fun - who needs working vehicles?

Found a couple more pix from my fun day with Charlie.
My wife got some good shots but she missed some of the best stuff!
Oh well, guess we need to make another trip out there sometime.

Photo Shop is amazing! The people in those pics look like normal human beings - no one could ever tell. The ladies are probably factual representations but no MB Diesel nuts could look like a couple of average gentlemen. Notice I do not post pics of myself! I'm not good with Photo Shop.

Charlie's new warehouse

Finally made it up to visit Charlie & Adele at their new place
outside of Gardnerville, NV. They both seem very happy up there
and Charlie finally has a place big enough to put all his parts in--a barn!
Adele is happy, I'm sure, not to have engines in the front yard anymore.
It was good to see them both again and to see their new place.

Here's a shot of one little corner of Charlie's storage facility.

Yes, Mr. Charlie is a gentleman. Just recently I was in need of a working shifter (mine had a broken reverse lockout, and I kept freaking the people who were driving behind me by accidentally going into reverse at the stop light). He picked up a perfect shifter, and sent it to me. I works perfectly and I was both thankful and humbled by his actions.

Thanks from your buddy,

Packman

I'm having OM617 envy! I'd like a spare engine for the race truck - just in case. Maybe John will have one.......

Haven't met Charlie but he sure sounds like a stand-up sorta guy. The world needs more of those!

And I know what you mean about the shifter. I harvested mine from the 240D that I got the trans from and it's a thing of beauty. Not sure how fast you can shift it but in LSR that's not really critical. I did new bushings on both ends of the shift rods and it's smooth as butter.

more pix

Charlie wanted me to post some more pix from my trip to
his place. He said, "do a big picture of me so people can
print it and have something to throw darts at."

Also some photos of his lovely bride, Adele.

Should have shot more of his parts museum......oh well, next time.

Great people

Charlie and Adele are great people! They have been on a few cruises with us, and they are a joy to be with. I am glad to see that they are all settled in the new place. I might have to take a road trip soon to check it out!
