A/C Leak Issue - 1982 300SD

My A/C leaked out almost all of the freon so I recharged it and put a little stop leak in to seal it up. It was working fine for a couple weeks until I turned on the Heat one morning. That afternoon it was empty. Blowing only hot ambient air. It worked fine the day before.

I refilled it and it worked fine for about a week until I turned on the heat one morning and again that afternoon it was blowing only hot air again. It was working fine the day before.

Any ideas what might cause it to empty after turning on the heat?

Welcome to the forum

What part of the country are you located?

Moderator vstech is a refrigeration man by trade and knows these systems inside and out. I would reach out to him. Or search for threads he has started (with the advanced search function).

I suspect you still got a leak.

Agreed. There are a few ways to find a leak. 1- squirt soapy water solution on all the fittings and hoses. A leak will be obvious. 2- use leak detection dye in the oil/refrigerant, and check with a special light and glasses (available at most auto parts stores). 3- use an audible leak detector (sniffer). I generally use all 3 after recharging a system. Sometimes the sniffer will catch a leak that was missed by the dye and/or soap solution. Most times the leak can be found with the soap, and no further detection methods are needed. If your compressor is leaking, contact me about a Sanden upgrade.....Rich
