E320 CDi Won't Start

My 2005 E320 CDI with 155,000 miles, cranks, fires, but won't start or run. While driving on a long day trip (750 Mi) the check engine light came on. at about the 450 mi mark. All readings remained normal. Stopped for gas and shut off. Fuelled and continued on the remaining 300 mi, check engine light aglow, all other indications normal. Shut car off upon reaching home. Will not start. OBD II codes are P2009, P0489, P0243 and P0102. When attempting to start, a rich smelling exhaust is visible. Fuel and air filters were replaced at 150,000. Let the diagnosis begin.

Mercedes Fault codes

or from sprinter forum http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5369
the codes
P2009 Water In Fuel Sensor Water In Fuel_
P2009 Water In Fuel Sensor Signal Error_

P0243 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A Malfunction

P0102 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input

P0489 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Low

You might have gotten some bad diesel fuel. Please don't use the word gas when talking about diesels. If you did stop for gas that could be your problem too.

It could be a fuse. I could be some parts of the system need to be renewed. Good luck

If there's water in the fuel it might be immediately shutting down to prevent engine damage.

More details on the p2009

P2009 check B4/6 (fuel rail pressure sensor).Signal voltage too high.
P2009 check B4/6 (fuel rail pressure sensor).Signal voltage too low.
P2009 component G3/13 (right O2 sensor,after CAT,CYL 1-3)(P0141)
P2009 Component N15/3(ETC control module) is faulty.
P2009 fuel water content sensor.(fuel filter)

You would probably need more advanced Mercedes diagnostics to understand the codes meanings

You are a new poster. You did fuel up at only large truck stop places or similar high volume dealers? Otherwise is risky and will catch you sometime or another.

Pull your secondary filter and dump the contents into a clear jar. Let it settle and you may see a water fuel line separation.

If you let someone else fuel the car pull the fuel cap and smell for gasoline. Fill the filter with good diesel before reinstallation.

I never let anyone else fuel my diesels unless I an standing beside them. One of our daughters learnt this the hard way. That is no longer much of an issue though as most places are self serve.

Yup. I Remember in one of those silly reality shows about sextuplets the wife put gas in the diesel excursion. Bye bye injection pump

I don't think it would have driven 300 miles home after refueling with a gas/diesel mix.....would have been knocking like crazy and shut itself down. Pre-detonation, bad exhaust, etc. ECU wouldn't have liked any of that.....

Have you tried clearing the codes and seeing which (if any) come back?

I'd do that first and then start with pulling the canister filter and installing and new one. Its only got the one filter, or at least that's all my V6 has.
