Harmoic vibration 78 300D

Does it sound possible that changing the transmission mount on a 78 300D would cause a harmonic vibration? I'm going to look at a car whose owner claims that this occurred after he replaced the transmission mount and that it is worse in colder weather, less noticeable in the heat. He says the rubber of the replacement mount is too hard and if he uses a heat gun on it it softens it up and the problem decreases. Just wondering what the folks on the forum think of this issue?

- Peter.

Well Peter, I think there is some truth to what he says. But I think there is a further problem which is either in the front mounts being bad or that the driveline bushing/bearing is bad. I think they are all kind of in it, together.

^^ Times 1

I cannot understand why someone would use a heat gun on the transmission mount....replace all the mounts with lemforder/phoenix and then report back...

Well. I test drove the car today and unfortunately I don't think I'll be finding out. The vibration was horrific. I mean it could well be that all the mounts and mount shock's just need replacing but the car is almost undriveble as it is. It was so bad it was almost impossible to concentrate on any other aspect of the test drive so I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass on this one.
