Based on shipping a number of larger parts and pieces from the US to Europe, I'd think shipping would be around 3-400 US for one unit, maybe even less possibly. If there was some kind of group buy and it could be shipped as sea freight you could probably do better than that, as shipping by sea is roughly half but it could take a month to get here.

I guess that design needs the whole device with the vehicle mounted onto it to sort of scoot over towards the lifting mechanism when it's doing the lift. I'd be a lot more comfortable using a big old tree and a come-a-long or a chain hoist as the lift.

The Harbor Freight Orange paint scheme doesn't help inspire confidence either!

The problem renting something out is if it can't be picked up locally the shipping will be a killer. The Liqui says it's tool is 62 kgs total weight but it also has its lift screw mechanism that is 6 1/2 feet long as well. So realistically even Greyhound shipping will be easily over a hundred I'm guessing.

I would probably be almost cost effective for someone to build one themselves if they could. Aside from the welding the only real difficult part would be bending of fabricating the correct arc of the main parts. If a steel fabricator could bend it that would be great but I'll bet slicing, bending and then welding an arc could be accomplished as well.

I was looking at the thickness of the steel and that stuff IMO should be a lot thicker, too.

Ideally, I am hoping someone has one sort of locally so I could drive and pick it up. Pay a deposit, drive it home, use it, and drive it back to the owner.

I don't want to argue but if you compare the Tenn. machine with all the equivalent parts to the German Machine costs more up front!

The Tenn. basic parts $750, another wheel plate set$110, lift tower $900 = $1760 plus shipping

The German tool comes complete with all that, better design, better construction, better operation for $1100 plus shipping

I'm betting the shipping for the Tenn. machine will be at least $150

The German Machine probably $400 maybe 500, that's DHL or similar probably

If quality is the main concern, then the German item is probably better. If minimal safety is met by the TN item, then the TN item is by far cheaper. The TN item costs $750.00 and the TN company will match whatever car you currently have with their wheel disks. If you ever need different styled wheeled disks, then OM603 is correct and that will cost more money if you should go that route. As for the hoist, that is not needed as a cherry picker will work according to the TN company. Again, OM603 is correct since that assumes a person already owns a cherry picker. As for shipping, from TN to me in SC, it's around $60 bucks. So, total costs for the TN model to me using wheel disks for a W123 MB is $810. The TN firm does not charge out of state sales tax if I understood Joel, the tech guy, correctly.

I doubt I could buy the German item for $810.00 shipped. I know I could probably re-sell the TN item for $400 used. So, my real out of pockets would be around $400 after I use it once. That is a super high rental fee IMO.

I can tell you that the steel on the main arcs of this tool are quite thick a bit more than 1/8" so probably 4 mm.

Can you put up WTB ads on forums where you might find them and edge out the competition that way?

The FS on a bunch of forums will occassionally list them, and they sell literally within 48 hours or sometimes less. I am talking about all makes and models, and all the niche forums as well. They sell very, very fast. Trying to target all those forums would be about impossible since I would have to join a zillion forums.

So you can't just do this again?

Yup, John and his buddy and my weak azz tilted that car over on its side. Didn't really hurt anything on that heap, but I am thinking my current DD needs a lighter touch ... lol

Oh OK, I see.

How about targeting forums more likely to have them? Would Garagejournal be worth it, for example? Or some large restoration forum? Y'know, forums where people have the $$$ to buy toys like this? Like, not DD ?
