606 oil cooler
 

Had a pretty good oil leak coming from the oil cooler. I removed 4 bolts at the oil pan and one at the water pump. Wiggled everything until it came loose. I took a little bit of a coolant bath, but the catch pan was nearby. The big o-ring is pretty flat. The o-rings on the oil tubes inside the oil pan are greenish and still in good shape. Anyone know what they're made of? Napa and Olympic Auto looked at me as if these o-rings were from the space shuttle. I didn't find any threads here about changing the oil cooler or replacing o-rings so I thought these photos may help.

Update...

The Pelican Parts guy was barely and reluctantly helpful when I called. He sounded annoyed. I coreced him into providing the part number for the large o-ring, but he really couldn't be bothered. Phil would have been just fine helping me find inexpensive, hard-to-find, MB parts. RIP Phil.

American Service Center parts guy Cesar found all of the o-rings.

I did my OM606 oiler cooler (99 Turbo, similar though). Get the o-rings from the dealer. I didn't have luck anywhere else unfortunately. I'm just happy the o-rings weren't as expensive as when I do a C36 AMG oil cooler. Did you have oil in your coolant? I didn't see it mentioned, but I am still curious anyway. I had oil in my coolant, but not vice versa. I thought it was a head gasket but was just the oil cooler luckily.

Green is one of the Colors that Viton is made in although they are ususally Brown.

At Autozone have seen Green O-rings in a bubble Pack with some fittings in the same Bubble Plack for Air Conditioning. Don't know if that means because they are green they are made of the same Material as the Mercedes ones are.

Apparently the Oil Coolers on the 606 Engines vary with year and Car model. That could be the reason for a lack of Threads about them.

Thanks for the pictures -- haven't seen this part of the engine before. The '96-97 version of the OM606NA engine have the cooler on the other (left) side. This is one of the things that makes the 606.910 / '95 E300 unique. Mercedes uses green o-rings in a number of locations that see no fluids at all, such as in the air intake crossover pipe. How special they are I cannot tell -- maybe it's just what the low bidder happens to use.

I found part numbers for some of the o-rings I need for the job.
The big o-ring is: 6069970445,
the four o-rings on the pipes inside the oil pan are: 0129975648

I still need the part number for the o-rings on the pipes that connect the heat exchanger/oil cooler to the water pump. There are two pipes - two o-rings per pipe.

Does anyone have a way to determine the part numbers for those o-rings? They're a lot thicker than standard o-rings. Much appreciated.

Should be in EPC, no?

EPC doesn't work on mac according to their faq.
