What is this part and can it be replaced?

I am in the process of replacing the vac connections and such in the eng compartment of my 1987 300D turbo prior to jumping into the ACC system. The rubber vac connector going into this part is cracked. It seems like it is part of the unit (vacuum control unit?) I think this is a vac line to the passenger compartment. What is the unit and can i replace/fix the vac connection?

Thanks,

G

That is just a vent, it being cracked doesn't matter.

The way I fixed mine was to get a 1/8 hose mender...barbed fittings on either end with a flange in the middle. Attached this to the VCV with silicone goop. Then just used a right angle hose to connect to the pipe.

Mine is cracked too.

I repaired mine with HVAC foil tape.

As others have said, it is a vent to the cabin. Since it is there to relieve vacuum, it "sucks in" instead of "blowing out".

You don't want to run with it disconnected or leaky as it will draw dirty/wet air from under the hood into the valve and ruin it.

I like your idea mxfrank, I will pick one of those up in the home center next time I'm there.
