Help! Car won't start......

1982 300D turbo.
Yesterday, spent the day doing some overdue work on Gunther. The glow plug light on the dash has never worked, but I have never had a problem starting Gunther, but decided to change the glow plugs because I had no record of when they had been changed. I removed the hard fuel lines supplying the injectors, replaced the soft injector return lines with new, replaced all the glow plugs save for one (the third one, bolt head was rounded from what I suspect was a prior attempt to remove), adjusted the valves and put everything back together. I then pumped the manual priming pump 200 times and started him up with no worries. I tightened everything that appeared to be leaking- just one of the hard lines to an injector- and drove around a bit. I stopped at the hardware store, the ice cream shop and the mini-mart, and each time he started up and drove just fine. Fast forward to this morning and get in assuming that he would start again, but alas, no such luck. Everything was spinning like it should, but sounded like it was getting no fuel. Didn't have time to deal with it, so got in the back up car and went to work. This evening, tried again, same thing. Pumped the manual primer again, to no avail. It seems like no fuel is getting there. I know that the manual primer pump isn't 100% - there is a large puddle of leaked out fuel to back this up, but I can see the air bubbles move through the clear fuel lines, so it's moving fuel somewhat. I tightened all the nuts on the hard fuel ones again.
My initial theory was that there was a small leak(s) that allowed air into the lines overnight while it sat, and that priming it would displace that air, but that does not seem to be the case. I took pics of the linkages and put everything back together properly AND it ran great last night.......any thoughts as to why it won't start today?
