1984 300D HVAC system

do these hvac systems work well when you get the bugs out of them? I have had several toyotas and they have awesome a/c systems, i looked at my tacoma today and it looks like i could make that system fit in the mercedes but don't know that it would be worth pain involved in doing so.

I did charge the a/c right after i got the car and it worked OK, but that was this winter. i have tried to use the a/c the last few weeks and i get warm air with the a/c running and you can hear the refrigerant surging in the system with the gauges show i am cooling just not making it to the cabin. I know i have a leaking door and i did isolate that with no change to cooling vacuum has no other leaks that i can find.

I did hit the a/c button one day and it didn't go all the way in, all the buttons across the climate control switch were flat with none indented it does seem like that's when the thing when haywire but it was warm then and really wasn't using the a/c every day so can't pinpoint it to that.....

Sounds like you've got a problem with the CCU. Try to get your hands on another one and swap it out. Should be easy to find from any 1980 and up 300 series MB.

You asked if they work well. My $0.02: they work about as well as auto systems on other european cars of the era. That being said, yurrup never did this kind of stuff best (the huge majority of cars delivered there had manual systems). It was only mainstream to have auto CC in North America.

Frankly I don't like auto climate control anyway, in any car.
