OM606 Injector Nozzle Socket
 

I ordered a deep 22mm socket that was advertised to be correct for Mercedes OM606 injector nozzles. However, when I tried to test it by inserting the rebuilt nozzles, I discovered they don't fit. Am I missing something here, or should I go ahead and return the socket? The nubs clear the hex flats but are too wide to fit up in the body of the socket. I'm still not sure why the cutout is there. It looks like a really thin walled 22 mm socket will work, and people have reported success with them, but I figured I'd go for the official tool.

Is there a Makers name on the Socket?

You can see the flaw in the Socket. The Hex ID of the Socket is not cut down deep enough.
The Barbs are catching on the circular part of the Steel below the 6-point Hex.

What company'sSocket is that?
I had a simlar issue with Laser Tool Delivery Valve Sockets. I wrote to them about it and also set pictures and it took them about 4-5 months to fix their production but they sent me a bunch of free Sockets; more then I ordered.

In the case of the Delivery Valve Socket I also ask Laser Tools why they had not simply copied the dimensions of the Hazet Socket.

No name on the socket. I will have to contact the seller and ask for $ back, that's really annoying but I suppose that's what I get for buying a no-name tool on ebay.

This is the ultra cheap socket I bought from Harbor Freight. I've never had any trouble with it fitting, no matter what position the injector is in.

I buy stuff on ebay 1 or 2 times a Month. Once in a deal goes sour. But, even on the soure deals you usually recover your Money.
In over 7 years I have been stuck 2 times paying the Shipping back but most sellers end up refunding all.
It is just a little time consuming.

What I have found that works best is to plug you situation into one of the catagories that ebay has.

You need to contact the Seller and make the Seller aware of the problen. The next day file a Claim.

The next day file a claim; inyour case you have an "Item Not As Described". Not as described because it would not fit your Injector and the Seller said it would.

After that just let the system do the work and check back to see if you need to respond to something.

Always have whatever you say to the Seller also copied to your email.

Quite a few times I have the Seller has refunded the Money and given Me the item.
A Seller did that with a Power Window Motor (not Mercedes) and I was able to swap a part from the used Motor and get the new one to work.

Sellers sometimes do not know there is a problem till the Customer tells them. I bought several of the Laser Delivery Valve Sockets from the UK and because I have no M type Fuel Injection Pump I did not get to try them to see if the fit.
I sold one and the Coustomer told me it did not fit and I refunded the Money to the Customer and canceled the Ad.

Follow up question - what size braided line is right for the return lines? The 3.5 mm ID? How much should I buy?

I have the 98 turbo, you have the 97 N/A.

I suspect the line lengths will be similar between the two.

Diesel911, thanks for the tip on how to deal with this on ebay - never had to do it until now.

Thru ebay's proper channels, I communicated with the seller and got a partial refund, in return I keep the socket. A buddy has already machined out the inside for me and the injector fits inside perfectly. The partial refund will be used to buy this buddy some beer, so it all worked out.

Quick questions - return fuel lines - 3.5 mm ID braided would be correct? Also, beyond removing crossover intake and the engine cover, is there anything else that has to be removed to get to the injectors? I know about the hard fuel lines and the brittle plastic clips (ordered a few to replace), and to be careful around the oil breather(?) vent tubes. I believe the injectors themselves should be torqued to approx 40 Nm but will confirm that.
