Oh No!! Not in the rear!!

Just wanted to pass on a testament to the durability of the older sedans. Our first benz was a '76 240D we purchased when living in California. As I was taking the wife to work one day, I put on the old turn signal preparing to make a left hander when the Toyota behind me decided not to stop. Upon feeling the impact, I got out to survey the damage. Our car had only a small scuff on the rubber portion of the rear bumper while the young lady who hit us lost both head lights, her grill and radiator. Being California, she not only had no insurance but no drivers license as well. She begged us not to call the police and since we had no real damage, at least nothing we had any chance of collecting on, we agreed and left sitting to resolve her own situation.

They sure don't build them like they used to....

California is a bad place to be hitting other folks w/o insurance or DL, she sure is lucky you were nice about it. I do hope she learned something and is now insured...

I think she will have a tough time getting insurance without a license!

My poor SD benz has been rear ended about 3 times here in Austin....in each case I was at a dead stop in traffic and the idiot behind me either wasn't paying attention or was just a moron.

Needless to say, you can't tell that this has happened, but I know that all of them were spending hundreds to fix the damage to their front ends.

I just love these cars.

Honestly I think I would have turned her in. Uninsured drivers are one of my biggest peeves. No liscense only makes it worse....she'd have been toast with me. But I am pretty mean.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago to me....rear ended by an infiniti sedan, smashed a big hole in his plastic bumper, wrinkled the hood and smashed out both light assemblies....I didn't even have a scratch. I did let him off because I was in a hurry to be somewhere. He was lucky.

I wouldn't let someone off the hook for no insurance or DL. I don't care. If I have to go through all the trouble because of the law, then everyone should. There's no excuse for it. No license, no insurance, NO DRIVING PERIOD! There's too many idiots on the road already.

Favorite trick of the carjacker is.....

A favorite trick of the carjacker is to rear end your car. When you get out to check damages, then they make their move. You folks be careful out there. Here in TEXAS they allow us to qualify for licensed personal carry of firearms. Just a food for thought moment before you all going out to check on your beloved Benz after a shunt.

Regards

You should have called the police!

What were you thinking???? Here's someone who pays nothing for insurance, which raises the rates ... FOR THE REST OF US. And if on her way home after hitting you, she hits a pedestrian, her insurance (since she doesn't have any) won't be able to pay the medical bill for the person she hit, and/or for property damage she's done.

I'm sorry, but step up to the plate, man. The reason I have to pay "uninsured motorist" fees, is because of people like her, who ... are UNINSURED!

AND with no license???? What were you thinking! This is unacceptable, period.

Big mistake. If you have her info, correct your wrong move. Call the police. People like her shouldn't DRIVE a car. Maybe the police won't ticket her at this stage, but they can make her life more SAFE for the rest of us.

Yeah, here in Arizona we can carry licensed firearms for protection too and our Castle Doctrine laws extend to our person and we have the right to respond with deadly force! If someone tried to carjack me, you bet I will shoot to kill them! No Apologies!

You should've called the police and had her arrested. No insurance and no driver's license is a danger to everyone around, not to mention given those factors, she's probably an illegal alien anyway and should be deported.
