I need a wiring diagram
I need the wiring diagram for the plug into the ignition switch on a 1980 300 D. The wires are all color coded and the holes in the plug are all numbered. I need to know which wire to stick in which hole.

You will find that information in chapter 80-300 in the factory service manual. This can be source for free via www.startekinfo.com - there are several threads on the subject of getting information from this site (this is difficult because their site is not very reliable)
Here's one I started Mercedes Startek have done the right thing - to help you do the right thing! I'm not 100% sure if they have uploaded the electrical trouble shooting section of the CD though If you get stuck you will be able to find help here => Online Tech Links Thread - Mercedes-Benz Forum

I had an 83 240D and I have the book for that car. I suspect mine was similar.
There is a method to the madness, the terminal numbers and wire colors all have meaning. You should have two terminal 30s, they are the feed from the battery, the wires will be solid red. Either solid red can go in either 30, they are connected together internally. Terminal P30 is for the standing lamps, live in off or accessory only, green/white wire Terminal 15 is the main switched power feed, live in run or start, red/black wire Terminal 15X is the feed to the climate control blower, live in run only, red/yellow wire Terminal 15R is the secondary switched power feed, live in accessory, run, or start, red/green wire Terminal 50 is the start signal, violet/white wire

Thank you Jay Bob. That should help enormously. Even if a few things are different, your reply gave me the information that will enable me to check the switch terminals with an ohm meter and get the right wires to them.
But, I strongly suspect the switch plugs are the same. Thanks again. I was sick when that plug came apart and those wires pulled out, and I had no idea what they were or where they went. Richard Last edited by rasper; 04-18-2014 at 09:04 AM. |
