Power steering res. spring retainer removal
Does anyone know how to get this spring off? I want to change the fluid and filter but before I start twisting it back and forth with pliers, I wanna make sure there isn't a better way.
All of the instructions I can find are for the nut type, not this annoying compression retainer.

Funny, I posted the same question early on with my car. All the DYI's talk about this nice nut holding the spring down...I used some pliers I put some tape on the jaws and just gently twisted as I pulled gently.

Compressing the spring to relieve tension on the retainer might be helpful.

After you remove it, smash it flat with a pair of pilars to re tension it to hold...if not, one day when you go to check the fluid....it will pop off and go flying. Remember there is a drain bolt under the box to make removing the fluid make easier....

I didn't know about a bottom drain plug, I just heard it "use a turkey baster" haha

There is a drain plug. I use it instead of turkey baster. I just take the bolt out and drive the car to the super market which requires a few turns. This gets all the steering fluid out nicely.

No no no no and no.....don't drive or even start the car with the drain plug removed...this will for sure ruin your power steering....simply remove the small bolt and then turn the wheel with the car off from one side to the next....this will get everything out...now before you install a new filter...fill the system and drive a bit...do a lot of turning of the wheel and then re drain the system....it may take a lot of flushes to get the fluid clear enough to see the bottom...
