1985 300CD-T W123.153 494 California - A/C Compressor and ACC Climate Control
So I started today on the project of getting the AC working in my 1985 300CD-T W123.153 494 California.
Going by the diesel giant 'How to repair your A/C pictorial'... How to Repair Your A Im just going to flush, charge, and oil the system and hopefully not have to buy any parts. I went to unplug the compressor to flush the lines and I saw this: no belt on compressor Shouldn't there be a belt on there? It sounds really rough like metal on metal if I spin it by hand.. Is there a way to test the compressor? |

The belt was probably removed because the compressor was bad. Any metal on metal sound, and you've got confirmation of that suspicion.
Get yourself a Sanden compressor and put the old technology R4 out to pasture. You'll be a lot happier, cooler and use less fuel.
