If I caught somebody doing that to my car, I would key their face with a razor

I'm not much of a fan of the criminal element, but I can at least understand the concept of stealing something that you can use yourself or sell to buy something you need.

Simply destroying other people's property is beyond me, though. There's no way you can turn that so that it makes any sense whatsoever.

I hadn't had my 210 long before someone tried to steal the hood ornament. They were unsuccessful in their attempt, although they did leave a nice divot in the paint where they bent the star over into the hood. Cretins. My guess is they didn't know they could buy a brand new one (without stone chips in the chrome) for less than $30 at the stealer, at least back then. I think idiot thieves think those are like the RR "Flying lady" ornaments in cost.

Good luck with it, Tom. That does indeed suck.

Did they key in something like "BW" or "BenzWorld"? Wouldn't be surprised...

We had two tires slashed on our Corolla a few years back (on Good Friday, actually -- is nothing sacred?). Really stinks. I suppose keying damage is more expensive than tires, too... what is the deductible on your insurance? Can you claim this?

Damn, sorry to hear about the problem, brother. Good luck repairing the damage. Why is this stuff so common for Mercedes owners? It never happened when I drove a Camry.

I had someone break the windshield wipers on my car. Took a crack at the hood star, too. Didn't manage to get it off but they did damage the spring or something so now it doesn't want to stay upright like it should. I went inside and looked at the security camera footage and it was so blurry and far off there was no way to ID anybody--a guy just ran over from next door, tore ***** up, and ran off.

The mentality that would do this, would find this stuff funny, just leaves me staring in blank astonishment. I never did stuff like this when I was a teenager, I guess I just don't get it. Maybe it's just the jealousy of a Ford/Chevy driver seeing a real car...and realizing they don't have one.

I am sure they had their Hamlet moment.
"To key or not to key..that is the question.."
Any who, I hope poetic justice happens on the ham headed hamlet.

Sorry for your misfortune.

I had a friend who had a Diesel 240D a few years ago. It was his parts car.
It was parked at his shop and some punks decided it was a good skateboard ramp. Ruined what was perfect glass and a dent-free rust-free hood.

Which E300 got keyed?

I have less than 2k in the car, it's 30 years old, I drive this thing because I can drive it for free, it looks like heck because it needs paint and people still say WOW you drive a MERCEDES?!?!? like it's special or something, some people still see it as flaunting your wealth or something i guess and they feel the need strike out to make themselves feel better.

My 190E was scratched on the side, on the right side doors, pretty deep, only a few weeks after owning it in 2009. Not sure if it was keyed, but it was definitely scratched pretty deep.

My mother's 300TE was parked while she was waiting to pick up my nephew at my aunt's place when it was keyed, on the left side, whole length of the car.

Haters will keep hating, unfortunately.

The nice one.

I looked at them closer last night. It looks like a knife blade scratch. It is very narrow ....about the width of a thick hair and there is pulled wrinkles on the edges of the cut.

There's no respect anymore. Mercedes trigger jealousy I noticed. I have gotten it a bit in my last W210 E300D and my last W124.

As long as there isn't a deep gouge in the metal, I'd just get a local autobody supply shop to mix up some #040 Gloss Black paint. Assuming that's what Black you have. It will really do well, just clean the surface well and it should look decent.

Only perfect alternative is a repaint of the doors that were scratched. What a shame! Was this a bad neighborhood?

You're getting the picture. Everyone that drives a Mercedes-Benz is either perceived as 'rich' or in a few cases - actually are quite 'rich.'

Where, and how was it parked when damaged?

I get that too, it stinks. It doesn't help that the car has nice paint.

I'm guessing that I also get it since I'm young. People don't expect 18-year-olds to be driving 'Benzes.

Not only do the delusional drive a Benz to be perceived as rich, it's supposed to be extra sex appeal. Car doesn't really do justice to a duffice unless you're filthy rich.

Jooseppi, I didn't know you had your SD on the road yet. How's she now?
