The best test I can really think of is, drive it 600-800 miles, and check the oil consumption. If it's like the NA I had in brown car, it was smoking, I thought it was just un burnt diesel because that's what it smelled like...turns out it was burning oil....around a quart per 500-600 miles. If that's the case, well, injectors aren't likely going to help, if it sat for a while, I've read here many guys soak the rings with mystery oil...but I have no experience with that.

He's not burning any oil, use to and then one day....i went to check the oil and nothing was lost...I was shocked!
The smoke is white, when smelt it smells just like diesel. I will go get a bottle of cetane booster and see if that does anything. I will have to take it for a trip and see if that clears up the smoke, so far I have only driven him 100miles around town... I also need to drop the tank, and change the filters...

Sounds like worn out injector nozzles to me....Once I replaced them on my 190d it runs so clean at idle there's nothing visible at all.

Well it appears to be self healing as it were. I don't have the smoke like a did, well frankly I don't see much at all. I did that purge, and then dumbed what was left in the tank, got 15$ more of fuel and stuck some cetane booster in it...Guess it may just as well been from sitting and old fuel....

Well the smoke has seemed to have came back. So I am going switch the bosch injectors from my 78 into this guy, they were just installed a few years ago....no smoke out of that car.....so we will soon find out if the injectors are at fault....they will be shipped to greazzer to be checked out when I get the funds....had to order a slide hammer as one heat shield is stuck in....couldn't get it out way back when...

My International Harvester back hoe ( German Neuss engine ) has some white with a tinge of blue smoke when cold. Put a load on it when hot and the smoke will go away. At some point it will get new injector tips as I attribute the smoke to poor spray pattern.
