Type M Injection Pump High altitude Fix??

Just dawned on me, I am having a fair amount of diesel fuel smoke out the rear while idling. I then was thinking, I am at high altitude and the type M pump has no ada/alda....

So I was curious, if any adjustments can/need to be made to the ip, to help with fuel burning at altitude?

Is the Euro 617NA rated for the same hp output as the federal one? If so you could always swap in a federal IP that has an ADA on it. How old are your injectors?

with the type M pump, I get an extra 10hp...plus its so simple to idle up compared to the mw pump...so its something I want to keep.

Injectors are probably about 5 years old, I am need...or say I WANT to send them to greazzer....I bought them off ebay rebuilt with monark nozzles supposedly but now that I know how good greazzer is....I want him to go over them..

If you are not using one a Diesel Fuel Addative with a Cetane Booster in it may help.

I think I would have the injectors tested before I went about adapting an ADA to the engine. I assume you've adjusted the valves as well.

I am at 4200ft.

Didn't think of using an octane booster...might try that..

Yep valves adjusted today, only had one intake that was tight..

I can't remember, and I'm too lazy to ready through your other thread again, lol, but did you do a compression test on it?

lol no biggie....nope no compression test, its a strong engine...had no blow by before it sat...now just a tiny amount....had no smoke out the tail before it sat either....

I am wondering if it was possible the shop stole my injectors and put in a set of crappy ones and that is why I have the smoke...since they did steal a few hard lines and ll the clamps...

I know this isn't to well looked upon but I may just see if I can switch over the injectors in the 78 and use the old heat sheds...they are bosch rebuilt...but i have no smoke out of that tailpipe..

It would be a good test, but I would order a couple sets of heat shields. There's no point in doing the test if your loosing compression past a bad heat shield. It could give false results.

Well Mercedes did specify different M pumps for operation at altitudes above 2000m => chap 07-200 in FSM

But for the OM615 with M-pump with pneumatic governor only.

As you surely know, the OM617 had MW or M/RSF with mechanical governor.

This thread, put together by one of our former forum members, may help. It presents the key adjustments to the different injection pumps.

Indeed but then the OP should really have an ADA too shouldn't he?

I was only making the unhelpful comment that Mercedes did provide different M pumps for higher altitude - though as you rightly point out not for the OM617 - there's nothing much the OP can do with that information I guess other than go to sleep safe in the knowledge that Mercedes did think about it: And perhaps he ought to get an ADA sorted out!

When the control lever is in the idle position, the effect [effect of the ADA/ALDA function] is approximately zero.
It is purely an emissions device to prevent/minimize the emission of black smoke, it will not increase maximum power.
