You might have Bendix calipers, or you might have ATE. The pads for one don't work on the other. Prices on this site for either type run roughly in the 20 to 40 dollar range. From saying on another thread that you need a valve adjustment, I'm assuming you have a W123 300D. That would be 1977 to 1985 model years. If that's not the case, then that would change the situation a bit.

I installed some cheap pads from pep boys on my 87 as I wasn't sure if the car was road worthy. It also needed rotors but I was cheap. 20k miles later, I'm still running these pads and they stop decent however, they do squeal really bad. I call it the song of my people. If you are willing to live with the possibility of some break noise, get the autozone pads. The squeal is most likely from my rotors being toast.
