new oil coolant line 82' 300d leaking

so i put brandy new oil coolant lines on tilly in the fall..
they are leaking. it acutally coming from the collar where the metal tube meet..
they are leaking at the cooler.
is there a trick to making these not leak.
sealant anything?

You can try putting a hose clamp or two very tightly over the existing crimped sleeves. But your best bet is likely to find a hydraulic hose shop and get the hoses repaired.

I was worried about this. Mercedes is no longer stocking these, and the ones out there that area available are coming from less reputable sources.

i believe these are trucktec.
they seep where the crimp meets the hose end...

Yeah, I was kind of assuming that. Trucktec isn't the best known brand out there.

There's only one alternative right now. I think Corteco. Supposedly a bit better. But they only make one of the two lines these days.

Even that Kent guy in Washington, who is "special ordering" them, is having them made via a joint venture of Monark and Trucktec...

Contact the Company you bought them from and see what they say.

I have not read of any way to re-crimp the Collars and have them seal.

I think in 7 Year of reading the various forums I have read of 2 occurances of New Lines leaking and that happened with in a few Weeks of installing them.

What Makers Hose did you purchase?

The Mercedes Parts from the Dealer are I believe warranted for one Year.

A lot of Euro Cars use Oil Cooler Hoses made with Choline Hose on them.

This is interesting Pelican sells upper Hose made by Choline "Cohline is an OEM supplier to Porsche & BMW"
But the Lower is made by Trucktec.

This is why its best to just make your own, with good quality hose and clamps. Never have to look back.

Pretty soon they will become a NLA part, the early w123 oil cooler lines aren't available any longer already.

Seems like the aftermarket oil lines are not what the original factory were made of. The original ones the rubber hose was of a tougher material. I bought a set a few years back and the hose was of a thinner and softer material. I had a leak at the Filter housing end no matter how I positioned it and tightened it down.

Finally used the old hoses, cut off the Crimps, and had a Hyd Shop Braze on AN Fittings, and used Parker Push-Loc hose. I used the metal pipes on the Cooler end compared to what MACH4 did in the following link. His was a custom set For his Diesel swap.

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...

You might want to consider converting your cooler and hardlines to aircraft-type AN fittings - then replacing lines in the future is as simple as swapping the reusable hose ends to new hose. The steel braid helps protect the lines as well.

If it's good enough for flying, it's certainly good enough for cars.



This issue comes up so often I'm going to make a howto with the information all in one thread for anyone that wants to pursue this course of action.

I just went through new leaking trucktec oil cooler lines on my 85SD. The collar cripm was fine but I had a seep at the compression fitting where the line connected to the oil cooler. The oil cooler fitting had a crack and would never seal.

Mercedes makes a part where you cut off the old fitting, tap the cooler and install the new fitting. I don't remember the part number but found the info on this site and googled the PN.

The part came from the dealer. It should show up in EPC. Perhaps this site also has access.

That said, I would replace the cooler nest time. The tap is an odd size as is the drill. I bought both. My drill press was stolen so I had a machine shop drill & tap. They screwed up the tapping. I ended up having another fabricator order a bushing and welding it in. I had to pay him and buy the bushing. I could have gone to the yard and removed the cooler with less work and expense.

Some have said that 5\8" oil hose with double constant tension clamps will work. The stock fittings are 15mm which is smaller than easily found 5\8 line. It may work and I have the materials to test.

Mach4's solution certainly seems better. I'd be interested in a parts list if it is available.
