Help with 240d. Wont go into gear or start
My 240d with an om617/4sp manual will not go into gear nor will it start. Problem is. I'm about 1200 miles away from home so I need to fix this asap.
When the motor is off the trans will go into gear without clutch pedal being down but if I try to start it in nuetral nothing, same with starting in any other gear when it does go into gear. Master cylinder issue maybe? I'm currently in Corvallis Oregon and I live in socal lol |
can you push start it?

By no starting do you mean the Starter will not Crank the Engine?
Or that you can get the Engine cranked and started but you cannot get the transmission into gear and move from there? I suggest find some place where you can get on the Internet and Join one of the Auto Clubs so that you can get some free towing if that is what is needed. If the Engine is running and you cannot shift into gear I would suspect that the Clutch is not releasing. Meaning that they Hydraulic part of the Clutch System is not working or leaking. A long with that the Part of the Master Cylinder Reservoir that the Clutch Gets Fluid from needs to be full of fluid. If the Fluid has suddenly disappeared from the Rear Reservoir of the Master Cylinder it could be that the Rear Seal on the Master Cylinder has allowed the Fluid leak into the Brake Booster. |

Can you use a Jumper Wire to get the Starter To Crank? But, if the Trans is in Gear the Car is going to Jump.
I had a problem on another Vehicle where the are on the Shift Linkage Arm was slipping on the Shaft and I could not shift the Gears. |
Thanks guys. It was a number of things combined. Shift linkages and mc fluid and the starter is bad. I've fixed evening but need a starter tomorrow. If anyone has one for the om617 with 4spd and their near Corvallis Oregon please let me know.

Need a slave cylinder. None seem to have any in this area

theres a mercedes only wrecking yard but its down in glendale near grants pass. dont know of anything near corvallis
|
I took the slave out and apart. Front rubber boot has a crack but the rest is in good shape. Put it back in and bleed the clutch 3 times. Worked fine for 119 miles then dead pedal. I had to do fancy rev matching and double clutching to use my lower gears. Then the trans got sick in 2nd for about 20 miles. Good ****.
