Need IP centering basket
 

Looking for a "injection pump centering basket" tool.
PART NUMBER is 601 589 05 14 00
If anyone has one to loan, rent or sell.

The one site has "This tool is to be discontinued" that site also said they only have 2 in stock.
This makes me think that the job can be done with out but maybe not as easily.

There is a mention of a left hand threaded part in the below site:

Wouldn't make any difference if the engine was out or in, the timing wheel's still going to fall into the front case if it's not secured somehow. Friend on here did suggest that he has stuffed rags around the timing wheel in the past to hold it in position but that would be your choice. OK for someone who knows exactly what they're doing but not something I would say to do if you're not absolutely certain of what you're"

You don't need it, just zip tie the gear and chain together before you take out the pump if your worried it will fall (it cant fall all the way down into the case anyways)

Although zip tying is a tall order since IIRC there isn't a through hole in the sprocket, x2 nonetheless since there's nowhere for the sprocket to drop but a half inch onto the lower chain guide rail.

[edit] Doh! There's a through hole when you remove the bolt.

That tool used to be cheap....now it's absolutely ridiculous how much it's listed for. If I ever sell my 87 300D I'm pulling the VP and taking the basket out.

Samstag claims that th $10 price that used to show up on their site was an Error.

Yup. It's like $300 or some ridiculous price now. It's a simple stamped piece....

I work at a machine shop with stamping equipment... I wonder if I could have them build one?

I think I have one sitting around the shop somewhere. Will look when I get home if I can remember.

I dont think they would cost much to stamp out of sheet. way way less than the 300 dollars being asked.

I think a wad of rag can be used to hold the gear steady too.

Since the timing device sprocket has no holes, why can’t it just be aligned with two or so paint marks or scribed marks?

Or else I need to procure a basket or equivalent…
