1985 409d info wanted
I just bought a 1985 MB 409d Trueblood van conversion w/48k miles here in CA, and am wondering if anyone has insight about getting a hold of an owners manual, and/or any other info about this Trueblood company. I am missing a key to what I hope is the generator compartment, but basically am on the front end of a project of sorts...

All I can find it this
Trueblood Mercedes RV, Branded Marketing and this TrueBlood Mercedes RV Marketing I've never heard of the company before - but that doesn't mean much. Lots of little companies adapt trucks chassis with special bodies. If you want engine related information I can probably find it for you if you read off the engine number on the side of the block (usually on the right hand side of the block as you are standing in front of the vehicle looking into the engine bay)

Which engine? I suspect it has an OM616, which is a four-cylinder diesel engine also used in the 240D sedans.

1985 409d
Thanks, I'm new to this site -
but I believe the engine is a 617.9 - auto. The vin is European and so I have not been able to check that either. I have the original MB operating instruction manual, but there was only a printout in German ( I think that was downloaded from some site by the previous owner perhaps years ago ) for the actual owners manual in the van. Won't actually have the van at my fingertips until Monday ..so can't check that engine number until then, but will post back. Thanks for all the input! |

Found this
http://www.mercedes-club-bg.com/Mercedes%20Benz%20Help%20PDF/Merecedes-Benz-Manuals/Vito%2019995-2002/Mercedes%20207,%20307,%20407,%20209,%20309,%20409D.pdf Probably what you've already got though... ...It should indeed be a non turbo OM617.913 Mercedes-Benz TN - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia You can use the W123 / W126 manuals for the engine over on www.startekinfo.com You're probably not there yet though - bit of a tricky site to get to work so if you need engine factory service manual (FSM) information you know where to come and get it. There are a lot of camper nuts on the forum who would appreciate some pictures of your new beast so post 'em up if you want. There are several people here who can help with the VIN if you post that up too.

Once you have the engine and transmission identified (Russian EPC may provide the vehicle data card?), then you can simply ask questions about anything related to those. All the rest of the body etc. we can probably help if you post pictures.

Ok thanks for the info I'll start checking it out.
The vin is 61146810619648 Definitely needs work, have a good roof leak issue - yuck May reconfigure the inside sleeping arrangements to make it more user friendly - oh boy... I am sifting through the random instructions brochures/printouts that were left with the thing and of course I see a letter dated from 1991 back to the owner from the German water heater company responding to his inquiry of why the heater isn't working properly... So will post some pics when I get a hold of it next week - more to come! |

Interesting info on the vin - thank you..so all the various numbers attached to items represent identity I guess...what does the 3 mean for body I wonder..?
I did get the 'operators manual ' with it, which I now know is the only owners manual it must have come with - big score there - English too, 1985 everything was simpler then, not like the 3 volumes I have for my 2008 MB cdi.... I bought it from the second owner who actually used it as his mobile office back in the early 1990s. Never went camping, but it was sitting for the last several years just getting started every couple of weeks as I understand. Like all German things it is compactly designed inside and I am not crazy about the bunk beds in the rear of the cabin, so I am gonna rework this for sure. Project ahead..that's the easy part -more concerned with the roof situation... |

Engine number: 617.913
OK, so you have a non-turbo 5 cylinder diesel engine. I had an '85 123 wagon that was a grey market euro import, 617.912 engine. A little noisy, but much better than a 4 cylinder. The 123 factory service manual covers the OM617 engines. Yours will have minor variations because it is installed in a truck instead of a car, but the maintenance and repair procedures should be essentially the same.
