Type M Pump Timing?
I have timed my MW pump numerous times....but haven't messed with my M pump. Check the timing, the engine is 5 degrees off, making me think I should check the IP timing as it is still sitting at the factory mark.
So I know I need the 33 tooth socket, does the top unscrew just like that of the mw? Does the lock ring need to be removed first? Any special remarks?

Yep. Remove the lockring.
Be prepared with more than one spare copper washer seal and o-ring. Oil the o-ring before putting it on the carrier. Once the o-ring is on, use a fine-tipped , polished tool to get underneath it and work your way around the circumference to remove any twists in the o-ring. Dentist's tools are perfect... A plastic toothpick, too. Have a thin, hooked tool handy if the copper seal falls into the plunger recess below the carrier. Don't use magnets. Don't use magnets. Don't use magnets. ...the rest is mostly related to cleanliness. You know the drill. **just an IP timing remark that we often overlook when getting involved: only set the timing while advancing the pump timing. Do not set the timing while rotating the pump in the retard direction. |

When the Delivery Valve Holders are removed from the M type Fuel Injections pumps you don't want to do anything that causes the Barrel of the Element to be pulled up as if it comes up fare enough and out of the alignment slot it can cause problems.
This has happened a few times to some who have changed the O-rings and the Crush washers on the M Type Fuel Injection pumps. For the same reason do not rotate the Engine without The Delivery Valve holder being tightened down. Before loosening the Delivery Valve Holder make sure there is no dirt down in the threads that is going to fall into the Fuel Injection Pump as you back out the Delivery Valve holder. If your M Pump has the Port for it you could rent or buy a Timing Locking Pin and time it with that although that is not what it is specifically made for.

Boy this sounds complicated, maybe I won't check the timing. It is checked via the drip tube also, once the spring and valve is removed?
Though technical, this would be good preventive maintenance to replace the o rings in the valves. Have a variety set of o rings coming that I can use, just need the washers and socket....oh we'll see..

What I cannot tell is if there is another method of timing available.

Would be nice if there was, that didn't involve some speciallty tool.
Looks like it wouldn't be as hard as I though....just don't remove the thing the valve sits into, the same as the mw...drip it....then drop the valve back in, and spring....new o ring and washer....then bob is your uncle...
