a failing CV joint makes a clunking sound (at least it's the most common)

but first you could go ahead and take the rotor off and look at the parking brake, could be something got in there and is clunking.

it's confirmed

yep, it's a cooked diff. there was a whole chunk of metal floating around inside ... the good news is we may have a line on a parts car with 132k on it and a bad tranny will know more next week. the indi and i both agree not to let her die for this!, considering the overall condition of the car.
trying to attach a pic- the loose metal is at the bottom of the
casing-

words of wisdom

these are the words of wisdom that are keeping me going now-
and i quote-
"if you really love the car, nothing is going to cost you so much as to get rid of it!"

thanks bill! everyone take note please.

the good news and the bad news

"new" diff is found from an '81 and installed! - the bad news...
both 1/2 shafts were bad as well. lots of scoring on the diff ends and some splines also chipped/damaged. ordered rebuilt 1/2 shafts..
you only know how much you miss these cars when they are in a 'repair' mode
