switch illumination

I have a question on the 240d models with the fader switch in the center console. It has 2 speaker icons on it. My question is did those light up with the cassette radio that was stock in them? There is not the extra lugs on the switch like the 201 had. I didn't think that switch could light up like the window switches from the light switch.

IIRC the 240D fader has only 6 pins and no lights.

My 124's fader has 8 pins, and it lights up with an LED under the "speaker" symbol.

It would have to feed from the radio, if they worked. I would think that they did actually light up, because you can't find the switch at night looking at the console. This is only a guess, and M-B usually touches all bases!

I don't think the 123s came with an illuminated fader control. At least not the 240D.

The 80s 240D (and I think the other 123s of that era) had a choice of 2 Becker radios.

The standard 599 analog cassette unit only has a "hot" that is actually shared with the cigarette lighter below. The bulb in the unit is on whenever the unit has power.

The 612 (digital) needs constant power and illumination wires also. These are provided on a 2 pin connector that is behind the ash tray. Constant hot from fuse 2 and illumination from the rheostat circuit.

The 124 fader obtains the illumination voltage from the dash light circuit. Nothing to do with the radio. There is a distribution block in the console with illumination voltage, and the fader harness has 2 extra wires that go to this block in addition to the speaker wires.

My 78 has never lit up and has no spot for a bulb or wire. Its easy to tell the wheel by feel...
