In my first post from today, the first picture, I did release the block drain. I even kept it open as I flushed the block. I stuck the garden hose down the neck of the top radiator hose and let the water pour out the block drain.

Overall, it was a very cool experience. I had replaced my turbo and did not know what those things were sticking out of the block.

Again, Thank You for the insight!!!

That hose is the overflow from the reservoir. There is a second bottle behind the right front fender that is the secondary reservoir. This one is not under pressure like the main reservoir.

Yes you should replace it. I need to replace mine too. The part is available from the forum sponsor or the dealer.

A couple of resources for you:
epc.startekinfo.com - sign up for EPC. It is the online parts catalog system that is what the dealers use. It asks for your credit card only to authorize a $1 to prove you are in the USA.
startekino.com - look for MB workshop resources on the left side, page through about 3 pages of results to the 124 Workshop Manual. Complete service manual for your car online.
w124-zone.com - another website that has the FSM for your car. Better copy of some of the scanned documents, especially the wiring diagrams, here than the official MB site.

Auxiliary Fan

Thank You Everyone for the Great Information. I have driven my car over the past 2 days and have some updates.

Vegas heat yesterday hit 107F. My girl went up to approximately 102C. I had stopped at one point and the Auxiliary Fan was on. Other time I stopped to check and it was not spinning.

I have read several threads saying that the fan will engage at a slow speed with pressure from the A/C compressor. The fast speed engages when the coolant temp hits 105C. Others mention that waiting until 105C is too close to the "danger zone". Although I have a #18 head, I would prefer to keep her cooler.

To that end, how do I check the Aux Fan? Can someone point me to a thread about it?

Secondly, Pros or Cons to engaging the Aux Fan at lower temps? If a lower temp sensor is the way to go, any recommendations on the procedure?

I also remember reading about changing the fan and clutch to the 606 model. I have read several old threads about it and all seem to have good results. Anyone have a How-to?

Thank You All again for the Feedback! Next up is troubleshooting my A/C...

glenn

Be sure you use the TURBO 606 clutch AND fan blade. DO NOT USE ORIGINAL BLADE OR THE 602 plastic blade... Both will cause EXPENSIVE failures...

Do you happen to have part numbers? :-) As I have not ventured past my 603 before, I am not sure how to search this site for the right parts. :-|

Thanks for the help!

Click the Mercedes-Benz link at top of page, turbo 606 would be a 98+ e300 diesel
