Sunroof Won't Close From Lift Position (help)

It's inevitable - now that my 91 300D no longer leaves a drip something else wants my attention. Two days ago I head an unusual noise while closing the sunroof from the retracted position. Not thinking I opened it in the lift position. Now it won't close 100% on the left side (right side is normal).

I've looked at the service manual and posts but all seem to start by removing the sunroof liner. Since I can't open the sunroof 3/4 to get started I'm at a loss where / how to start.

This picture shows it at rest (un-closed)

This picture shows what happens when you try to retract it

In this video you can hear a (sort of popping) noise as it opens

In this video shows that the outside (steel panel) stops moving before the headliner. (I was closing it in steps to demonstrate - if you hold the button it closes smooth)

In need of suggestions or help because it's bound to rain soon

Although I'm not familiar with your model, many electric sunroof issues I've had and read about come down to the rails being too dry. I'd try cleaning and greasing everything as a first measure. Good luck!

if you remove the cover in the trunk over the sunroof motor, in front of the antenna... there is a bolt you can turn to manually control the sunroof... SLOWLY rotate that bolt, and see if you can control it or if the cable is broken, or if something is binding inside there...

Ultimately, I think you may have to remove the motor and separate it from the cable. However, getting a helper may avoid this.

This will allow you to pry the panel back far enough so that you can remove the interior panel. Have a helper turn the nut that VSTECH mentioned, while you pry the panel back.

It looks like the frame member that attaches to the cable has been damaged of come loose.

It's apart, broken lift arm. I'll post details for disassembly when you can't open it later. Right now I need to get an arm and put it together.

Re: A/Single /A.L.A. "Angular Lift Arm" Replacement.

I'd approach the R+R program just like "Brake Rotors":
"DO One ?/(No!)/DO BOTH"
