The mirage does not sound too bad. Good mileage figures too. sounds like it has crappy tires.

The author clearly never drove a lifted Suzuki Samurai. Mine had a 2" shackle lift and some biggish tires, making 5th gear useless. Carrying much speed through a corner wasn't an option either. Top speed on level ground was 60 in 4th gear. I never timed a run, but I think my 240D could do it quicker. However, off road, it could easily go places a Humvee couldn't.

I am still torn whether I like driving my powerless 190d better or my dripping with power 420.....the w201 is very quick and nimble in the corners which makes it more fun to drive. I can see myself unloading the W126 at some point for a 190d 2.5 turbo or a W124 300D 2.5....deep down I will always lean diesel.

The OM601 coupled to a M102 gasser radiator has so much cooling capacity that even in the 85+ weather lately it doesn't even rise over 85C or so idling and drops back to 82C once moving again....that's with no fan installed on the engine at all. I have an electric fan I can trigger manually if needed.

Is it a white SUV? Those ones are built for low speed chases.

As a traffic safety dude... this week we had a suspected suicide where a person drove a Saturn into a brick wall. If you believe you have to go 100 mph for safety, it only took 50 mph for this person to be dead. In a car with airbags and a safety cage, but no seatbelt.

Fast may bail you out sometimes, but slow is usually more survivable. For a journalist to say that 0-60 in 11 seconds is dangerous, you have an entire field of engineers who would argue the opposite.

Just my experience.

My 201 is most obliging in the corners. Quite like a 92 accord I used to have. Would probably be better in a power on corner than the FWD accord.

Agreed. The author should try an overloaded Fiat if they want a white knuckcle merge.

I have driven the 2 stroke version of the samurai, it had a (I think) a 540cc engine and proper 4wd - it weighed as much as some spare parts of our cars. It could go places - slowly though.
