California Delivery Program

My mom has come to CA to get her car.

My mom has been in CA for about a week and a half. The first week of her visit involved her helping me fix the last of the small issues on the car. She installed door seals, made the panel for the boost and egt gauges. On Friday we headed up to my home town where my friend helped us detail our cars and take them to a car show put on by his car club. This was fun. We were a bit out of place being the only German cars in a show of old American iron, until one of the club members showed up in this lovely gray market 450SL.

Here is moms car parked next to a beautiful Marlin.

The day after the car show we headed out on our California cruise. We left Lake County and headed for the northern California coast. We stopped in the redwood groves of Montgomery Woods.

My mom and her husband in her car, and my friend Sharon and I in my car.

After seeing the redwoods we headed to the town of Mendocino.

We stopped pn the headlands for some photo-ops.

After Mendocino we headed south down the coast.

We got to San Francisco at sunset, so we headed down the 101 to Salinus and skipped some of the coastline. In the morning we headed south back on the 1. We stopped a few times and got lots of pictures, but this is my favorite.

We stopped at Hearst Castle and spent Monday night in Ventura. Today we spent the day in LA. Sharon is an enrollment coordinator for Marymount University California. They just oppened a campus in Lake County and she works with the people in southern CA, so today she met with her co-workers and I hung out on campus. Tonight we're in Sunset Beach, going to the Classic Center tomorrow and then off to San Diego. More photos to come. After San Diego we're going north up the 15 to the 395, and crossing the Sierras at Lake Tahoe. Then to the Nor-Cal meet on the 31st! see you all soon!

I titled this post the California Delivery Program, because my mom is getting the closest thing to the European Delivery Program that you can get for a 34yo car!

That 300D looks great with the Euro headlamps. Eventually, I'll get some. Those M-B look right at home beside the classic 60's U.S. cars. They don't have the cheap feel of other 80's cars. The cruise looks a bit like my fleet, with a 300D next to a Plymouth Barracuda (I think).

.....a Marlin AMC, (I think*) ....had the jumping out of water fish logo in several places on the car.

Rich! Yes join Us! We're taking the scenic route up north. We're in San Diego tonight, then headed up the 15 to your neck of the woods. From there we're going up the 395. Spending the night in Mammoth Lakes at the Travelodge. From Mammoth Lakes we're going up the 395 then crossing over to Tahoe, then coming down ether the 80 or the 50 to Sacramento. On Saturday we're leaving my house with the group from Sacramento at 8 and caravanning to the Lucky's parking lot in Sebastopol.

Here is the link to the event on Saturday.

Tomorrow I have to go help fix my old 240 in Duarte, but should be back home a little after lunch. I hope that will work for you. My going on the cruise is a little iffy, but I should know for sure by tomorrow when you get here.....Rich

See you Saturday!

Nik,
What a road trip you are on!
We will be leaving Friday morning and spending the night with our friends
in Santa Rosa, so we won't be caravaning with you from Sacramento.
We'll see you at the Lucky's in Sebastopol at 10:00 on Saturday.
740 Gravenstein Hyw N. Sebastopol 95472

See everyone there.
It will be great to meet you all in person!
Jeff

Sweet wheels on the SD! You gotta let us know what your mom thinks of this car in a week. It'll only get better!

Did you happen to see the greek taxi at Irvine? Or is that one in Germany?

Dang Nick, you will have the MOM`s Car wore out before she gets to take official delivery of it.

That is quite a trip you are on, this is a good shake down cruise for it.
Those are some great pictures you posted.

Getting the 240D all spiffied up for Saturday, few touches here and there to get her to sparkle.
We`ll have to get out of here around 6:30am to beat the traffic through the City.

UNKL300d, you going? It`s just across the bridge from where you are, be good to meet you.

Charlie

We're in Mammoth Lakes tonight. We drove up the 395. Got some pictures of mom and the car with the sun set behine Mt. Whitney. But didn't bring my camera up to the room tonight. We're going up to Tahoe in the morning then going to cross over at Donner summit, and drive the 80 back into Sacramento. Our cars may be a little dirty for the meet up. There will be many more photos taken tomorrow.
