Help diagnosing engine noise 87 300D Turbo
I have a 1987 300D. Car has about 215K miles and it runs great. Last weekend it started making a loud noise that I can't tell what the source of it is.
I made a small clip of it in the hopes that someone has heard this before and can help me diagnose the problem. Clip is here: 87 300d turbo noisy - YouTube Thanks |
I'd pull the belt, and check by hand ALL the spinning accessories.
could be the alternator, the belt tensioner pulley, the water pump, the fan clutch, the a/c compressor... etc... |
I was wondering about the vacuum pump. Not sure of anything though.

on the car that failed the VP I never heard anything...
not saying your noise COULDN"T be the VP, just that my failed one was silent... |
Thank you guys for responding. It turned out to be the belt tensioner and idle pulley that needed replacement. It's back to 'normal' diesel noisy.
|
With the belt off you'd also be able to determine if it was the vp.
