OE at the dealer for the fan I bought for my wagon was $52, trucktec is around 30, and it's simply a plastic fan... both have similar specs, as I have both.

the approximate prices I quoted, were based on last time I purchased the parts.

At first you mentioned a price of $140, then you mentioned PPs price for OEM is $160, but the Sachs clutch is $162 and the Trucktec fan is $32 (total = $194). Am I looking at the wrong parts? I guess the discrepancy in the prices has me confused.

Also, the fan Jay_bob purchased is likely to be higher quality than Trucktec, right? Or is Trucktec the OE manufacturer?
the prices were for aftermarket parts.

the OE stuff of course is more...

Thanks for clearing that up. The lowest current prices for Genuine MB parts I could find are $315 for the clutch and $54 for the fan. So clearly that Sachs clutch via PP is a very good buy.

Note for myself so I don't have to go look it up at a later date: the part number on the clutch is 606-200-01-22 and the part number on the fan is 606-200-01-23.

Thanks again for the help. I wasn't the OP, but this thread is very helpful for me.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

Ok coming clean now... I needed a clutch and fan for the 87 wagon and pulled one from a 300TE, I asked someone I trust about it and the answer was "ehh- it's plastic it's lighter than the metal one on there." I did that awhile ago, so far so good. The engine runs at 81C or so.

I was asking here to see if there was really more to it than that. It seems like the M103 is similar in size to the OM603 engine so it makes sense that it would pull enough air.

Will the 560SEL fan clutch bolt onto a OM603? If it pulls more air wouldn't that help with AC condenser cooling?
(fixing the AC is my next project.....)

The M116/7 fan clutch is held on the water pump pulley by 4 M5 or M6 bolts, not a big central bolt like the OM603. The M103/4 fan clutch uses the same attachment method as the OM603 fan clutch but I don't know if it'll fit nor if fan clutches are designed to spin only one way. I think I mentioned already that the M103/4 fan spins the other way.

Blade pitch and rotation is backwards on this setup I think...
