1987 300tdt fan clutch interchange

1987 300tdt fan clutch interchange?

anyone know which other models and years had the same fan clutch, I want to see if I can find one in a local salvage yard.

Or does anyone have a good used one for sale?

The om606 one is a preferred upgrade.

Look for the 98-99 E300D turbo engine.
I don't know offhand if the 96-97 NA used the same fan.

Just did this, new parts are $500 at the dealer with MBCA discount.

Tell him EVERYTHING you got with that money...

The clutch and fan come out around $140...

Uhh

That was 1 clutch and 1 fan blade.

Ouch. That is a bit rich for me

while we are on this subject... why won't a fan clutch and fan from a gasser engine (300TE) work on a diesel engine (300TD)?

sixto 06-06-2014 02:13 AM

If clutches are directional, the M103 fan spins the other way.

Sixto
MB-less

I asked that in another thread but had no definitive response, other than to check EPC for info.

I noticed the other day that BenzTurbo has a list of modifications to his car (83 300CD) in his sig line. One of them is having a 560 SEL fan and clutch. I asked him: "560 Fan & Clutch - Advantage? Bolt on swap? Is model year of donor important?

He replied that the 560 fan and clutch were a bolt on mod. Aand that the fan has much deeper pitch and moves a more air. He speculated that any 420 or 560 fan and clutch would work but that his install was from a 560SEL.

I posted this a possible clue to the interchangeability of fans/clutches between models/years.

I picked up a 560SEL fan and clutch from an 1989 from local pnp for 25 dollars. I will probably be mounting it today or tomorrow on my 77 300D.

SERIOUSLY?????

I recommend getting the stuff from PEACHPARTS, not the $tealership...
their price for OEM is only 160ish...

jay_bob 06-06-2014 09:39 AM

I am speechless that they charged me so much.

If I wasn't pressed for time I would have used da bird.

vstech 06-06-2014 10:10 AM

yeah... your dealership really is a ripoff... next time call wayne at my store... cheaper to drive to pineville!

Vstech-
Could you clarify for me as I still need to do this on my 1987 TD... At first you mentioned a price of $140, then you mentioned PPs price for OEM is $160, but the Sachs clutch is $162 and the Trucktec fan is $32 (total = $194). Am I looking at the wrong parts? I guess the discrepancy in the prices has me confused.

Also, the fan Jay_bob purchased is likely to be higher quality than Trucktec, right? Or is Trucktec the OE manufacturer?
