I have 212k on my E300D. PO changed the fluid/filter in the 150k range, I am due for a change!

I have I don't know how many miles on my 300TD. I suspect it is in the high 200k range. Original 722.317 still going strong, just a slight fluid leak I need to chase.

1992 e300d 185,000 changed 3 times in its life. Last I had synthetic put in. Hesitates sometimes to really click in when starting from a stop mostly after having reversed for a while. Only does this once when I place it into gear rest of the time shifts great and smooth.is that anything to worry about its been doing this for a while over a year.

I just did it. Put 100K on the car (E300TD) in 3-4 years, and changed the trans. fluid/gasket/filter.

On my 300SD, I changed the fluid every 50K miles.

Nowadays, I'm putting less than 3K a year on a car.

Just to make clear, this poster has a 1992 W124 which will have a 722.3 or 722.4 transmission. Since the remainder of the post has been about W210s I wanted to make sure everyone understood the fluid requirements for the W210 and later models.

W124s and older with the 722.3/722.4 can take good old Dexron that is available everywhere for cheap.

The W210 (1996 and newer) has a 722.6 transmission. There is a certain MB proprietary fluid that must be used in these transmissions.

The later models with the 722.9 need a different MB proprietary fluid.

The fluid for the 722.9 can be used in the 722.6
The fluid for the 722.6 can NOT be used in the 722.9
Neither of these can take any other kind of fluid other than the MB proprietary fluids.

FYI - There are a handful of aftermarket fluids that can be used in the 722.6 now. Its been 15 years and the aftermarket has caught up. Syn Mobil ATF or Amsoil AFT wasn't previously one of them. Not sure if there is anything available for the 722.9 yet.

Check it out, confirm it, and satisfy yourself first always as it is "your" trans and is costly to replace. 722.6 and above all are touchy about their fluids and the wrong fluid can fry it......

Fluids - http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/bevo-sheets-sort1.html

Approved fluids are either 134 or 3403 ATF? Quite honestly, as I don't own one any more the mental data has been being purged recently as its extraneous info I no longer need........

The aftermarket fluids for the 722.6 are almost as expensive as the MB stuff, so why risk it/bother with non MB fluids.

There are some excellent fluids out there....Redline D4 full synthetic meets the 236.10 standard and can be had for 11.49 a quart. That's what I'm using.

Knock wood, 420K (miles) on my '95 diesel, original trans. Been using Amsoil synth for the last 200K. Have 2-3 flare, but I back off to get it to shift, as if I was driving a manual, and it shifts fine. Replaced the B-1 (or B-2?) piston to try to correct the flare, but all it did was firm the shift itself and not affect the flare. It only flares with a steady mild throttle, hard throttle or backing off it shifts fine. Got the car with ~140K, changed unknown fluid after about 80K more, pan was clean, changed Amsoil after another 100K, pan was clean. Suppose I should change again...

Rgds,
Chris W.
