1982 W126 Wipers Quit-Motor Running

Hello,

Today this happened. Looks like I have to start looking for some bad linkages near motor, near false fire wall area. Haven't messed in that areas yet. \

Bummer and no new spares parts I read, or cough up $600. Darn.

I can not open Hunters link at end of this below link. It is at the dead end.

It is a word doc.

Can somebody open it and post as is or as a PDF here somehow?

Wipers stopped in a sleet storm! Help!

I read a few other links so far, it looks like a PIA job.

Any tips are good used parts appreciated!

I hear motor running OK both speeds but blades dead in any position I put them.

Thanks!,

Steve

Here is some info from the FSM: http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12253/program/Chassis/82-0680.pdf

Maybe it will help to sort out what is going on.

Do the blades move by hand per your quote above? Do they move together or independent of each other? If independent, then the splines on the wiper shafts probably have been destroyed. Typically, the splines on the shaft are stronger than the splines on the wiper arm. That allows for replacing the wiper arm instead of pulling the whole linkage and motor.

Morning,

Local yard had a 1987 320SEL. I looked up part #'s and a good swap. Fellow tested it and pulled it out and sold whole unit to me for $65. I thought a good price. I found the Ball Joint on mine closest to motor had fallen off. It would go back on but would fall off easily. I put some ATF under the Ball Joint seals since I read that on another link. Maybe 10 drops per joint on the one I put in. New ball joint was very tight on the junk yard unit.

Nice way they put all this stuff in there and pretty easy to work on. Hardest part was making sure all the square tangs got put under the windshield when putting back together.

Thanks for help guys.
