Best source for window motor W126 SD

These seem to be astronomically priced if you can find them. Is there any reasonable source? Perhaps Gerry can hook us up with some uro parts :P

I use Ebay for all my OEM parts

JamesDean 06-12-2014 03:14 PM

I see $140-$160 depending on location. Which window?

INSIDIOUS 06-12-2014 10:14 PM

Passenger side front. Thanks.

So just where do you see those? Used OEM or new aftermarket or what? That seems a lot less than what I see in the new after market. I don't think I want a used one of any kind. And just what does a new OEM cost? Based on some of the new after market things I see it could be over $400. Any links to purchasable items? What is/are the OEM part number(s) I should be searching? Thanks !!

These were Bosch motors I believe.

However, all the websites I looked had every window motor BUT the one you needed. Unfortunately... sorry.

Edit: looks like we need to figure out which one you need. They have this Z= thing which I assume is teeth count 8,10, or 14... When I looked up prices for these guys from MB, they were $370 at the most. $250 at the least.

Thank you, that is great information.

I guess I'll have narrow down the gear tooth number thing for starters.

INSIDIOUS 06-16-2014 03:35 PM

From my recollection it looks most like probably 0048201542

The photo of a used one at this site is like it, but the pic of the gears side shows the cover plate attached so no counting will be had :(

Post up your VIN, looks like the EPC has breakdown by ident.

The 004 unit you listed is $275 or so I think.

Not even my ride. Helping a codger. My nearest dealer quotes over $400 for that, says it is the less expensive alternative of the 2 possibles. I might be able to find one on the web for about $200 delivered. I'd be happy to hear about less expensive alternatives. So now it is just a matter of spending $ :( Thank you for the help :)

INSIDIOUS 04-13-2023 10:45 PM

Now I need A 004 820 15 42 with Z=8 for my right front. Hard to find. I got lucky on the left with a NOS genuine MB a while back.

I think I found a hack:

UPC:
080738880075
Brand:
ACI/Maxair
Manufacturer Part Number:
88007

It is the entire assembly including a new motor. And pretty cheap. $ 130.99

They have over 600 motors on their site but I can't find this one bare. All the retailers sell this.

anyone have experience with ACI ?

What is breaking? Frame? Electric motor? Gear teeth?

Just curious. I’ve been repairing some old dead regulators recently by welding new teeth on the gears.

INSIDIOUS 04-14-2023 10:05 AM

Always the electrical. Motor won't respond to voltage applied. This will be the first time I replace the entire regulator system. Last go around I ripped the old motor apart but couldn't pin point the reason for failure. almost 40 years takes a toll on a car ...

ykobayashi 04-15-2023 10:46 AM

Hah. Interesting. The w123 regulators I’m playing with have really robust motors and really flimsy mechanicals.

I’ll keep this in mind for my w126.

Likely a burned out motor. It would be nice if it was a brush but I bet you’ve checked all the easy stuff already. The coil could likely be melted given the high current these motors draw.

INSIDIOUS 04-15-2023 12:18 PM

Can you still find new motors for your model?

vstech 04-15-2023 10:28 PM

The windshield motors have a heat sensitive safety switch that fails...
I think you can open the back, and clean thw reed contacts and reassemble for a functional motor again.

Also, the sdl/SELmotors with regulators will bolt right up to an sd

 That’s a great tip. Thanks. Will keep that filed away someplace.

Are the part numbers the same?

vstech 04-16-2023 03:10 PM

I doubt it.

INSIDIOUS 04-16-2023 07:17 PM

Then what are the numbers?

vstech 04-16-2023 07:22 PM

No idea. I snag em from a pick n pull

INSIDIOUS 08-12-2023 08:24 PM

So it is now
August 12
and I finally got around to replacing the unit.

Went very well. About 2 hours. The motor was no way swap able with the old one so I did the entire regulator system.

I must have been super lucky because it all went flawlessly. Everything was phillps and 10mm socket

The mountings seem to have adjustability but it all worked on first try so I tightened it together and called it a day.

The stock Z was Z = 8 for the OEM, no clue about the aftermarket unit I never dismounted the motor because it was obviously not going to mount up to the OEM regulator. There were some differences with the new one but it worked fine where it attached and matters.

The question that remains is how long this will last.

My '85 SD has a broken, front passenger side aftermarket window motor/regulator. The equivalent to what's in it is ~$60.00. I ordered one from Rock Auto that was about double that. If I had the original regulator I would have just bought the motor. They seem to be available for ~$180.00 to $200.00 depending.

I didn't get the impression that they're hard to find.

Great news! Can you link us with a source for new original motors? Thanks

Go to the junkyard - there are plenty! Open one up, inspect for grease and re-grease with plastic safe grease, such as brake grease. I had issue with one of mine, turns out it was filled with water! I think some later models have a water cover.

I'm shy about old used parts. The originals all fail in unfix-able manner, how much life is left in some similar used one? The cost for me to drive to some place with W126's would exceed the cost of new.
