Nice job with restoring the car so far. I have been doing the same thing on one of my 300SDs for few years so far. The car was in abhorrent condition when I bought it and many times I have cursed my decision in buying it. As it stands now, the car does not even look like the same vehicle I purchased 3 years ago. That said, almost every single part has been replaced, so it begs the question of whether or not it really is the same car.

I, like you, will be using my car in my wedding ceremony, so everything has to be close to perfect. I am to be wed this October 11th, so my time is at an absolute crunch to get all the last details finished. There are some things that I cannot get to but the impact on presentation is minimal.

I will be posting before and after shots, so be sure to keep an eye out. I'm sure everyone here will be as stunned as I am.

Ima try this on Monday. Unfortunately, I am waiting on the rear diff mount to come in the mail. I shopped around a bit and prices ranged so much much I had to be patient and just order online. Love that pic of your Merc in your signature btw!!!

Thanks! Congrats to you, too. When is your wedding date?

The car is just going to be used to drive away from the venue. We have to catch a plane to Florida the next morning and then off to Disney World!

July 4 is the date. Hopefully I can have the suspension work and wheels done by then.

At least you have fall and spring to work on the car when it is nice out. Everything seems twice as easy when the weather cooperates. I have just about given up working on my cars in the summer and winter. I'm not as robust as I used to be; plus a little jading from experience. You'll get it done. Look into joining a local MBCA chapter as they have tech sessions that allow you to use special tools like spring compressors and ball joint presses while working in the dealer's shop.

So I am a little sad. When I went to install the oil cooler lines last night the lower line seems to be too long. The placement of the lines look about right but there are 2 kinks in the hose. These lines came from AutoHauzAZ.com. Do you all think they sent me the wrong lines or do I need to position them differently?

They both go above the A/C compressor mount casting. There is a groove for both of them and a clamp that holds them with a bolt in the middle. You have the lower hose going in the wrong place....Rich

EDIT: If by chance you are going to mount a Sanden compressor in there, you need to remove that casting anyway. The kit comes with an oil cooler hose bracket.

If that is still the plan you should have a completion date of May 4 road tested and proven. I try to have a ready for vacation, travel, or company over date ready weeks before, or I wind up scrambling in the week before. You sure do not want to be scrambling on vehicle work the week before the wedding.

Thank God! I thought I was going to have to ship the line all the way back and wait.

Yeah me and my fiance was talking about the other day. We're probably going to take it on a 1.5 hour drive to Raleigh for a skate party or something.

Not that I necessarily endorse this, but in some cases you can put a spring about a hose to allow it to make a turn without kinking... However, if those are the correct hoses, then it shouldn't be required, and there isn't much point in making it more difficult.

^ Thanks for the pic! I got the lines in correctly with no kinks.

The new Headlight doors and rear diff mount came in earlier this week. I will probably wait until I crank her up next month before I put the doors on. The work will commence next week.

BTW: If anyone has a front drivers seat, reverse light housings or flex pipe they want to sell for a good price I'd love to get it. I will admit I am a low baller but please at least send me a PM if you have one. Thanks in advanced.

I called in a favor to my friend over at EuroWise in Charlotte, NC. He came and spent the weekend with me putting it back together. In 2 days we finally got it all back together. Tried to start it but the battery was dead. $200s later I brought a new battery. After trying to start it up for an hour she cranked. I did get tons of black smoke, somehow another oil leak was created and the engine didn't turn off with the key so there is definitely a vacuum leak. The leaky vacuum system was excepting. The nipples to the brake booster line and the little black box on the vavle cover broke during the process. Overall I am hype about the job I did on the engine!!! I am taking it to a local Mercedes shop to have them fine tune in a couple of weeks. Heres a pic.

I don't think it turned out bad considering this is my first Mercedes preservation.
