cracked hose on firewall?
While trying to figure out why my main fuel filter is leaking from the top of the bolt, I noticed a cracked hose that is attached to the firewall. I've attached a photo....its right behind the oil filter...can anyone tell me what it is and for? And can I change it out myself easily?
Also, I've replaced my main fuel filter but have some fuel oozing from what seems like the top of the bolt. I've changed the copper gasket directly underneath the bolt, and the black o-ring. When I run the engine, there doesn't seem to be fuel oozing but when I shut the engine off is when a little fuel seems to ooze out at the very top....or thats where I think its coming from. Any suggestions? I'm a lady and can do a little minor work so any replies, please be specific. Appreciate it... thanks! Last edited by sierra1194; 06-02-2014 at 08:22 AM. |

That is just a vent/drain hose for the area underneath the windshield wiper area. Easy to replace by just kinda squeezing it closest to the firewall and easing it out.

For the fuel issue, tighten the bolt a bit more.
You have an early style set up, that crush washer is supposed to make a seal between two non machined parts. Being a soft metal, it will deform into any less than flat areas. What car are you referring to? Search this site for a replacement for that drain hose.

On the Fuel Filter Bolt if it is a Copper Crush Washer take it and hang it on a Wire and heat the Crush Washer Red Hot and dip it in Water and that will soften it.
If that does not work the Filter Housing could be warped, cracked or the surface where the Washer seats is no longer smooth. I have the item in the Pic listed as a NU-lip bonded aluminum washer. I don't know if that is what Ace Hardware calls them but one of our Members claims that they sell Washers like the pictured one and that it fixed his leaking problem. Anoter option is go get a used one from a later Model the uses the O-ring on both ends of the Filter Bolt at the Junk Yard.
