Rear window seal on a w126 is a rubber gasket, the metal trim fits into the rubber seal similar to the W123.

I haven`t worked on a w126 rear window, but I do know on a W123 the Glass with the Seal can be pushed out w/o cutting the rubber seal. Don`t know if this will work with a w126.

First remove the "C" Pillar trim panel, remove the Defroster wires on each side, usually a Phillips screw. Be careful not to break the solder connection at the glass.

>>>>>>>>>>>I would try this first on a PNP w126.<<<<<<<<<<<

But on a w123, from the inside top corner, pull the rubber seal back and squirt some WD-40 along the rubber. Then gently push from the corner and the rubber will fold out and work your way across the top and then down the sides.

From the out side, lift the glass and seal off the Pinch Weld across the bottom and lift the glass out.

W126 part# 126-678-01-20 or World Pack # W0133-1622073

Of course if your seal is very hard and dry-rotted you may need to cut/break the bits and pieces off the inside in order to remove the glass.

And if you get the old seal out without damage, it still may be too old, hard, and brittle to put back in. I would suggest getting a new seal and just cut out the old one. However, if your old seal is soft and supple and not cracked or dry, it may be removed and re-used without any issues.
