IMHO the auto in my 300D sucks, it really feels like the Germans kludged something together to satisfy the US drivers. I think I'd like this a lot more and get more out it if it was a manual tranny.

I don't think so. Unless your suspension is shot like control arm bushings, ect. I think it's just my driving habits.

See sig In my case the donor car was a '77 240D. Yours would probably come from a 201.

When driven like I drive, they're actually easier on tires than many other cars due to the moderate weight and low power. Most of my tire wear happens as the result of max effort cornering and trail braking. Consequently the left front tire takes the worst of it. Rotation helps. If I were in a more powerful car there would be additional tire wear from acceleration and braking.

How about your max cruising speed or rpm since some of us have different rear ends? I like to stay under 3500 cruising for long periods but will get around 4000 if I can open it up for a few miles. The engine seems to get kinda loud above 4000 so I don't usually push it. That's going over 90 then so not an issue.

I like driving my diesels hard because they don't move the fuel gauge like my 420 does when I drive it hard. Though admittedly you can actually have some fun with the 420....my tires don't like me.

I absolutely LOVED driving my 190Dturbo hard, slamming third to the rev put me around 90, then dropping 4th and winding it out puts me in scary speeds...

Of course, I overheated the motor, and blew the headgasket right out of the block, soaking everything in oil and coolant... It was fun though... If only I'd have kept up with the coolant levels in the scary fun car...

If I'm not stuck behind a slug, I'm usually at 5-10 over or the flow of traffic, whichever is greater. This is primarily for legal reasons. In practice this works out to 80 or slower most of the time. My tach works when it wants and I'm not sure how accurate it is when it does work, but I think at 80 I'm getting around 3300 rpm. There have been some occasions when there was little to no traffic and no LEOs around when I've floored it and left it there for several miles at a time.

When I drove a 240D to Atlanta and back I just floored it most of the way. Not only did I not get any speeding tickets, I didn't even get pulled over

85 Euro 240D, 2nd or 3rd engine. (came to me w/ lots of blowby). Current commute is 350 mile/week of rolling countryside. 1/2 between 70-80 and 1/2 between 30-60. Another 50/week around town.
