I've run my truck and MB with VVO straight out of the jug, but Greg didn't say if it was used or unused and how he determined if it was "rancid"

If I was stuck in the wilderness and no cell hell yeah, shoot, I'd start huntin critters and rendering them to get the grease to put in the tank but otherwise no.

The bottle of oil is down about an inch from full. It is unused veg oil. I opened it and the oil has a rancid smell from oxidation. Its not an odor you want in your food.

Yes, its only a buck or two. But the consensus seems to be that it is harmless to the 617 engine.

Those who seem to require an iron-clad guarantee that zero harm might occur, probably also wear a belt with suspenders, just to be on the safe side. ( <- seriously, that's a joke. No personal offense intended.)

I do it every chance I get. Ever so often, I get out of date veg oil from people, and just pour it in the tank. Of course I run a WVO blend all the time anyway, but virgin cooking oil takes no filtering or processing, so it goes right in the tank. I have a friend that sells barrels that he gets from a factory. They had virgin canola in them, and sometimes he gets them with some left in the bottom. His customer does not want any oil in them, so he gives me the new clean oil (I get 5-10 gallons at a time from 10-15 barrels). I just pour it straight in the tank during the summer, and the car loves it! It also smells better (the exhaust) than any other fuel I have used.......Rich

HEY I do wear suspenders and a belt! But if you're really interested in alt fuels for your MB there is a lot of how to info out there, Duda Diesel web sight is good and I used Biodiesel Recipes almost exclusively for learning how to do it

There are forums, even here, dedicated to the topic of running veggy oil. Short answer is you'll be fine dumping that quart in. It's no "experiment"... For a fact it will not harm your engine, the IP, the injectors, the filters, or anything else. Zero chance of anything like that happening.

I've run about 8 gallons through before....I mixed 1 gallon of RUG with about 8.5 gallons of clear veg oil + 5-6 gallons of diesel that were still in my tank at the time....ran great, but I'd not do it regularly. That was about 50-60,000 miles ago, so clearly the engine did not care, as it still runs great.
