Valet key/regular key...
Hi guys, I bought a W115 '76 240D a year ago and have not been able to figure this situation out. I have only 1 key for the car that appears to be original and the head is oval (valet). However, it works in all of the locks (including the glove box) but not the trunk. It's my understanding that the valet key is NOT supposed to unlock both the trunk AND the glove box. So does this mean I actually have a regular key that was mistakingly cut on an oval key head, and the trunk lock has some other re-keyed lock on it? Since my pneumatic lock system is currently dead, the trunk stays unlocked at all times.

the valet key has a flat blank, the driver's key has a groove cut down the center.
post a picture of your key, and we can tell if it's actually a valet or not. |

I had someone make a copy of my driver's key. They goofed up the cutting just a bit. This made it work in the door locks, ignition, and glove box but not the trunk.
Could just be a bad cut. |

That is a master key. Valet keys don't open glove box or trunk locks.
Only possible scenario is that the PO requested a Valet Key and the dealer cut a groove in the center therefore rendering it a master key. Or, it had a valet key key head glued on to replace a broken head. |
