I think I have a broken GP in the hole

I examined the GP again last night, when I tried to turn the nut, the electrode(not sure it is the name) will not spin with the nut. I don't see any part with the threads came out, it still is in the hole. I guess cut the GP and drill it out is the only option for me now. My question is, do I have to remove the head to drilling? How much a shop would charge for this kind of job, I am not so confident that I can do this myself. Thanks!

The electrode (glow plug wire attaches to it) should not spin relative to the nut (injector body) when you remove the glow plug.

If you can freely turn the #1 glow plug many turns and you do not see any exposed threads, i.e. if the glow plug is at the same height as the other unthreaded glow plugs, then the threads in the head is stripped.

Have you soaked the plug in PB Blaster or aerokroil?
This can dissolve the carbon...

Does that mean I need to find a new head?

I will buy PB Blaster and try, but I doubt it will help in my case because the GP still in the hole, it stick out the same length as others. Like the other member said, I may stripe the threads in the head.

You may be able to repair it with a helicoil insert. If not, then you will need a new head.

where are you located? there may be a member in the area.

soaking it can't hurt.

soak it heavily, then give it a day to soak in, and soak it again.

I agree... if the threads are stripped it's gonna be a fight.

I am at Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley. I will try to soak it for a day or two. If any member knows a reliable shop can solve my problem with a reasonable price, please PM me. Money is kinda tight right now.

Regular Car Repair Shops will want to remove the Cylinder Head and send it to a Machine Shop because that is what is going to make the most Money for them with the least risk.
If the Auto Repair Shop drills the Head and then botches the Job then thay are stuck with fixing it and the Labor involved.

Like I said it is an excuse for them to get the labor for pulling the Head and re-installing it.

There are shops that specialize in removing broken off Bolts and other items. They can do it the old fashioned way with Ezie-type Tools or the can burn it out with a special Machine.
The also usually do repairs if the threads are buggered up inside.

The Good news is that the Glow Plug does not seal on the threads. It seals on the tapered Sholder where the Tip comes out of the Glow Plug.

I think if another Member could go out there and take a better look that would be helpful. I have read all of your comments on it and I am still not sure what exactly is wrong and the picture is not much help.

If the Threads in the Head are buggerd up they can be repaird if someone does not enlarge the hole too much.
I have no idea what that would cost so I don't know how tha cost would compare with getting another Head.
