OM602 2.5 NA head gasket

Machinist may want to take the head down on my OM602 2.5 NA. Asked if different thickness head gaskets are available?

Anyone know? If the head will need any serious work I'm just going to pull the engine from the parts car.

Thanks

what would be the purpose in different thickness?

it's not like a gasser with a combustion volume change... flat fire deck is flat fire deck. only thing needing change is the PRECHAMBER depth. so different thickness PC rings are available.
chain tensioner should account for differences in valve train height.

Be that as it may, MB lists at least two thicknesses in EPC. I found a 1.74 mm thick head gasket and a 1.97 mm thick head gasket for the om602 2.5 na engine.

Did you notice the part numbers for these?

Thanks

In VW diesels, 3 different head gasket thicknesses are available based on piston protrusion above the deck. Pick the wrong one and you have valve to piston contact, not a good thing. Maybe it is the same with Mercedes diesels?

Interesting. Piston protrusion from what, I wonder... Block resurfacing? Wrist pin height? Odd.

There were many part numbers due to part revisions and because of different piston sizes. Do you know your piston diameter? With that info I can look this up later today.

Also what car is this? I looked up a w201 190d om602 na, but it is best to put the correct car into EPC.

As I said, from the deck = cylinder block deck. What else could it be? This is from the factory no block or head resurfacing, there are 3 different head gasket thicknesses depending on piston protrusion.

I had a moment (both kids miraculously are napping simultaneously) to find those part numbers. This is for an om602.911 in a w201 190D 2.5 NA. See attachments.

If I had to guess, I bet there are 3 thicknesses. I bet the gaskets without any thickness listed are "normal" and I think they only specified the thicknesses for the "not normal" conditions. Anyway, hope this helps.

And sorry about the inappropriate language used by EPC in those images. Their misspelling of the word thick always makes me laugh.
