If changing the color, I love Maple yellow and anthracite, but if mine I'd prolly keep the manganese brown. It looks very nice when fresh.

I'm of the mind, that the pastel colors REALLY make a 123 look classic. kind of 50's styling...
however, as much work as you have done, and you wanting a challenge... go for black. NOTHING looks as good on a car as black. NOTHING. however, it is THE MOST DIFFICULT paint color to get correct. EVERY SINGLE PANEL NEEDS TO BE PERFECT. the paint needs massive work to get it on smooth, and not show every single imperfection... and keeping the car clean will be a chore beyond most's abilities... but WOW OH WOW, it looks awesome with the chrome when done right.

Hmm, I was under the impression that MB didn't offer code 480 Manganese Brown in 1985.

Regarding the OP: If I were going to the trouble of doing a color change, I'd be doing British Racing Green. I saw a W123 in a junkyard in BRG once and it still looked great sitting on stands and halfway dismantled.

Black! I love it on these... since you want a metallic you can do 199 "Pearl Black", the ones pictured are 040 which is just plain old "Black".
First three pictures the black one is mine, last one is my friend Rich's previous W123.

I think it is a bit too light for the interior that I have but I am thinking blue would be good.

I've already got 199 on a W201 - it is a nice colour but I think it is too modern for a W123. 199 has a certain 1990s class to it I think 904 midnight blue if I go non metallic is a contender I guess that would be forest green 822?

I'm a sucker for ascot grey.
I plan on doing a full color change on my 737 classic white 300td to ascot grey.

I say Manganese is the verdict and we call it a day.
There's a Hungarian on YouTube who painted his W123 240D Chevy Orange. At least you didn't get any of those ideas and asked us about that. |

It is often said that it's not over till the fat lady sings.
In this case it's not over till the tall skinny bloke welds up the car and gets it ready for paint. I haven't considered orange on the W123 - but I think it might go quite nicely with wide boy alloy wheels on the (199) W201...

Manganese brown. It looks fantastic in the metal-and-chrome Mercedes...
