OM602 -- Noisy?

Hi All,

I just got done replacing all the delivery valve seals/crush washer, two fuel lines and a bunch of line clips.

I got the 602 started back up and it seems to be a lot louder and noisier than I remember it being. Maybe I am being confused by driving my m103 for the past three weeks but I figured I'd post up a few videos and see what you guys thought.

The only issues I am still having is the motor having a hesitation/miss when it first starts up. Once I run it at higher RPM for a minute or two it goes away and its running smoother.

Maybe its time for injector nozzles? No idea.

I drove it last night and it had plenty of power, ran well etc.

Some things to note:
The turbo wastegate actuator has been replaced with a normal pressure based unit and I removed the switch from the boost pressure path to alda. So the ALDA is fed directly off the manifold. I also have the black line that goes to the boost pressure sensor by the battery disconnected.

Here are some videos:

Here is another video I found from a while ago:

I did not realize just how much sound is lost during the recording and or compression of the video. Maybe I'll try a different camera later.. That or my ears are not finely tuned lol

Sounds just like mine and also looks identical. An injection servicing would be a good idea if you don't know when and if they had ever been done. What's the mileage on the car?

Its got 290K on it now. I was looking in the records I have from the previous owner and it looks like something was done with them 100K ago or so but not sure what, maybe just a clean/test?

A Guess - contaminated fuel from sitting while you where driving the other car.

How long did it sit? Was it in a garage or outside?

Doesn't take much water contamination in fuel to show itself in symptoms in the engine.

A Guess

It sat for maybe 3-4 weeks. I parked it with less than 1/4 tank of diesel in it. It was outside until last weekend.

I'm not seeing any reason to not drive it this week though...anyone see otherwise?

Injection service would be wise at 290K, considering you don't know really know what has been done due to lack of details on the records. It sounds like a 602 to me at idle.

Whenever I introduce a lot of air into a 60x by doing hard lines, DV seals, etc it seems to not run right for a little while. The 60x is self bleeding. Go drive it around for a day and see if it doesn't get better. Always seems to fix my cars.

In agreement with maybe running through a half tank or so of diesel before seeing if you are happy with everything. It would be time for aninjection service based on your history.

Interesting you say yours has a miss on startup....my OM601 does that too from cold starts. It will start right up but cough/miss for 3-5ish seconds then smooths out and runs great....doesn't matter the outside temperature. A long glow cycle seems to reduce but not eliminate it. Mine has new delivery valve seals, injector nozzles, hydro lifters, timing chain, and vac pump...overall runs awesome, but has the weird miss on startup.

I also have the same with my OM602 NA
8 out the 10 times it start on 4 cylinders. Not matter outside temp.
Longer glow (+10 sec) seems to help a little bit.
3-6 secs idle it runs fine. Or i just tap the throttle very little (1-2mm) it runs also on 5 cylinders.

Compression and pump timing is good, also new delivery valve seals and springs and new glowplugs.

Next thing is new hydrolic valve lifters and rebuild injectors.
