Can bad door check strap impede window operation? W124

My driver's door check strap just went bad on my 91 300D. At the same time, the window now goes down only about 2/3 of the way. Is it likely that the bad check strap is the cause of the window not going down all the way, that somehow it's impeding the motion of the regulator?

I'm not going to mess with it for a while....probably get it dealt with when I have the car in for something else. Just curious at this point.

If both situations where more or less simultainious. The probability is they are related. You want to get that repaired if the door strap has disconnected.

Otherwise a good breeze could take the door into the fender if it is a front door. Actuallly damage is possible with even a bad back door opening limiter.

It appears to be still connected....the door does stop at full open. But it won't stop midway.

That is what I was trying to find out. Unless there is something else broken loose on the ck strap that fell into regulator it should not be causing it. Wont know till panel is removed.

Any difference when the door is fully open or closed. Try lowering the window when the door is fully open, the strap will be out of the way then. It is very unlikely as the door strap slides in a rectangular containment.

Good suggestion....Yes! When the door is fully open, the window goes up and down without difficulty.

A little late to the game, but yes, I've had that problem with my wagon for the past 2 months. And opening the door all the way is how I get around it. -CTH

Thanks for all the helpful input....gives me a good sense of what I'm dealing with....will probably just let it go for the time being. Probably have it fixed when I get something else done....which is usually never too long! haha

I have seen door checks go bad in 2 ways that are not fun.

First is the door will not open. Bad but the car is still drivable.

Second is the door is open and will not close. Bad if you are not home. Driving around town with the door fully open can be fun.

I suggest you get it fixed before one of the above happens.
