What's the labor involved in replacing W210 shifter bushings?

99 E300 (son's car) has an annoying rattle beneath the shifter (though the shifter itself doesn't vibrate at all). My inclination is to let him live with it. But on the chance I'm in a generous mood some day, how much labor should I expect to pay to get all the bushings replaced? If I remember, it was about 2 hours on a W124.

Thanks.

Make sure it is not the rubber bushings in the linkage underneath the car between the gear selector mechanism and the linkage arm on the transmission. Not much to replacing those.

Not a bad DIY job and cheap if you plan to do it yourself. Lots of good threads about it via a search. Might be something in the stickies too.

I replaced the one attached to the bottom of the shifter. It was making the same vibrating, rattling noise. It was about $2.00 from the dealer.

I rolled up under the car (on ramps) with a screw driver and long nose pliers and had it swapped in about 10 minutes. Did not have to take anything apart under the car.

shertex,

Where does your son live, in relationship to where you live? If he isn't able to assess the situation with the used car, I would either want to assist him, or, have him get it to an indy near him.

This isn't something I'd let go. BTDT with my 300SD. I was on it within a week or two and solved it myself in my own home garage.

Firstly: Get a look at the problem, if he lives where you live.
