Antenna Mast?....question
Hello,
The antenna on my 300D is bent in half...now it is no more. I called my mechanic, who is Very hard to understand on the phone. The old antenna would not go all the way down, only half way down, before it broke off. He told me that I needed an Antenna Mast...and I was trying to determine if that was the antenna itself, or the motor?, I could not understand him. Does an Antenna Mast all I need?, Is that also the antenna itself? And are they sold per year/model of mercedes? AND, is this something I can install myself? Thanks much lindajane |

Yes the mast is all you need. Remove the old one and install the new matching one

It may not just be the mast, but you need to get the mast....before determine it isn't something else.

Unless you're heart set on the power antenna, I'd just kill it altogether. I got myself a generic GM antenna that was painted up all black from my local parts chain house that runs about $16, and found the connector that interfaces it with the Mercedes connection in the trunk.
Radio Antenna Drama... what connector?

I just replaced the mast on my 300sd when my 17yr old son failed lift the garage door high enough and caught the antenna.
I paid around $14 on a familiar auction site. Straightforward installation if you just pay attention to what you're removing. The new mast has a center flex line which is what is pushed/pulled by the motor pulley. Feed the center line of the new mast into the pulley and press the down antenna switch and it will self feed. If the motor doesn't run it may just be the fuse under the hood. I happened to blow the fuse while I was messing with the mast.

Antenna mast
If it's a Hirschmann power antenna, you need to know whether you need the toothed or the smooth mast. I've seen them on eBay for $25-30. My experience with Hirschmann antennas (antennae?) is that they provide generally better reception than any after-market antenna.
