Bad Glow Relay on 95 300D

I tested the relay earlier, output looked good, then today went to power up and it flickers back and forth. Dashlights go on and off and I can hear connections jumping *crackling*. I open the relay and see this white milky substance, not dry.

Anyone else seen this on theirs?

Waiting delivery on the new part. In my 6.2 Detroit Diesels I rigged a manual glow blug switch through a Ford Bronco relay, I'm tempted to try it on this chassis. We'll see, I'll keep record here.

capacitor guts?

the glow control unit on this car has its own circuit breaker and also a sort of "check glow control" warning when one of the glow plugs kick the bucket.

You can rig up your own item if you want. It wont affect any other part of the car.

Yup that is capacitor guts. Should be removable with contact cleaner spray.

You should be able to source new capacitors from Digi-Key or Mouser Electronics.

As long as the microfarad rating is equal or slightly greater, and the voltage is equal or greater than the original part, you will be fine.

Note there are two styles of capacitor, radial and axial. You have the radial type, where both leads go out the same end.

Make note of the polarity before unsoldering the old capacitor and pay attention to the polarity on the replacement.

Thanks for the help. I opted for a replacement unit. From the pics, the replacement looks like the older style relay that uses a strip fuse. I'll try it out when it gets here. I'll keep all posted.
