Restoring cracked panelboard

Well in my search for vacuum leaks I removed the lower interior hatch cover to find that some prior tinker had broken the carpeted panel in two places.

Panelboard is available on the web but the top of this panel has pressed indentations to fit behind the plastic trim. Is there a method of glueing these back together? My first thought was using some fiberglass cloth and some sort of epoxy but I figured I'd ask and see if anyone has done this or knows a good way to deal with this.

I am going to pick up some fiberglass cloth and some resin and give it a whirl. Seems like if I can just make it reasonabley stiff it will work just fine. I'll post a few pics of the results.
